WellPD is available to direct patients, who purchase their device directly from Empatica, and to clinic patients, who receive WellPD through a clinic as part of a clinical monitoring session. This article explains how WellPD works for patients who purchase their device directly from Empatica.
WellPD is an FDA-cleared and CE-marked wearable and companion app that helps you understand how Parkinson's affects your daily life. It tracks motor symptoms, sleep, physical activity, and medication timing, providing insights that can help you and those around you see patterns and better understand your symptoms.
What do I need for WellPD to work?
- A WellPD wearable
- A dedicated compatible smartphone with Bluetooth and internet connectivity
- The WellPD App
- An active subscription plan
How does it work?
- The WellPD wearable, our medical wearable with built-in motion sensors, continuously tracks wrist movement using clinically validated algorithms designed specifically for Parkinson's, monitoring motor symptoms such as dyskinesia, bradykinesia, and tremor. For these algorithms to work correctly, the WellPD wearable needs to be worn on your wrist, in contact with your skin. In addition to motor symptoms, the WellPD wearable also monitors your sleep and physical activity.
- The WellPD App installed on your dedicated smartphone receives this data from the WellPD wearable via Bluetooth.
- Once received, data is uploaded to Empatica's servers over the phone's internet connection, and insights become available to you in My Diary, including trends across daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly periods.
What can I see in My Diary?
In My Diary, you can view your Medications, Activity, Sleep, and PD details. This includes WellMove, a movement metric that shows how much of your day your movement stayed steady, with fewer periods of slowness or involuntary movement.
My Diary also includes summaries that make your data easier to understand, including how your symptoms may change throughout the day and in relation to your medication and daily routines. These insights are for informational use only. They do not provide medical advice or a diagnosis, and do not replace your healthcare provider's clinical assessment.
WellPD can also send you reminders to help you log your scheduled and as-needed medications on time. For details on setting up and logging your medications, see the Medications Page for WellPD article.
